Welcome Message From the President
Dear Skalleagues and future Skalleagues,
The end of 2013 and beginning of 2014 has been a challenging time for Thailand with the political unrest in Bangkok. As of March 2014 the state of emergency has been lifted in Bangkok and things are returning to normal.
Despite all that, in 2013 Phuket have seen a 26% passengers arrivals growth year on year, with a 3.1 millions international arrivals. 2014 look to be promising with very good occupancy recorded in hotels during the first 3 months of the year and a good outlook for the rest of the year.
In 2013 Skal International Phuket & South Thailand has been involved in many charity projects like never before and for this we want to thank you our members for your generosity. We have supported the following charity organizations:
- Phuket International women’s club scholarship fund: Baht 212,500.-
- Phuket has been good to foundation us: Baht 112,500.-
- Sunshine Village: Baht 112,500.-
- Skal International Phuket children charity fund: Baht 112,500.-
- Philippines disaster fund: Baht 100,000.-
Also, we continue with the project started right after the 2004 tsunami to help 20 underprivileged children in Khao Lak and Phuket. If you know of any projects/schools in the region that need our support please feel free to contact the committee as we are currently preparing for 2014.
We currently stand at 55 international members (10 under process) 12 associates and 2 Young Skal. Our objective is to attract more members, but more importantly to make the current members active in the club by joining the different events throughout the year, bring ideas & suggestions on how to improve the club for the benefit of our members and of course continue doing business among friends. We also would like to encourage our members to invite their younger executives to join Young Skal. They have to be below 30 years old and work in the tourism industry.
We are proud to be part of the largest association of tourism professionals celebrating 80 years and uniting all branches of the travel and tourism industry. Our industry employs millions of people around the world and we believe that we can contribute to peace and harmony. By working together, we can influence strategies in tourism & making sure that ethics and sustainability are well respected.
To all members and new ones, I am looking forward to seeing you and welcoming you to our next event. Don’t hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or at any event. Thank you
With my best Skål regards,
Claude Sauter, President
Skal International Phuket & South Thailand
