Welcome Message from the President
Dear Skalleagues and future Skalleagues,
On behalf of the entire Skal Phuket committee I would like to wish you and your loved one a very Happy and prosperous New Year.
2014 was a year of challenge for Thailand tourism industry and showing a slowdown of visitors to the island. There was also the unexpected but very brave “beach clean-up” and anti-corruption campaign which I am sure will benefit the island on the long term. I believe there are still works to do to make sure all our tourists are happy with the changes as well as the local community. As the situation remains calm we are very positive with the coming year and we can see encouraging signs with the current running high season.
As always Skal International Phuket & South Thailand has been involved in many charity projects like never before and for this we want to thank you, our members for your generosity. On 28th November 2014 during our yearly Skal charity event at Nikki Beach We/You raised Baht 400,000.- that will go towards 4 different associations helping children in needs in Phuket and the Andaman region.
Also, we continue with the project started right after the 2004 tsunami to help 20 underprivileged children in Khao Lak and Phuket. If you know of any projects/schools in the region that need our support please feel free to contact the committee as we are currently preparing for 2015.
We currently stand at 65 international members (10 under process) 12 associates and 2 Young Skal. Our objective is to attract more members, but more importantly to make the current members active in the club by joining the different events throughout the year, bring ideas & suggestions on how to improve the club for the benefits of our members and of course, continue doing business among friends.
2015 is an election year for the Skal Phuket committee and any International Skal members can become part of the committee. The election will be in March 2015 at the Movenpick Karon resort with the date to be confirmed.
We are proud to be part of the largest association of tourism professionals celebrating 81 years and uniting all branches of the travel and tourism industry. Our industry employs millions of people around the world and we believe that we can contribute to peace and harmony. By working together, we can influence strategies in tourism & making sure that ethics and sustainability are well respected.
To all members and new ones, I am looking forward to seeing you and welcoming you to our next event. Don’t hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or at any event. Thank you
With my best Skål regards,
Claude Sauter, President
Skal International Phuket & South Thailand
