Welcome Message from the President
Dear Skalleagues and future Skalleagues,
On behalf of the entire Skal Phuket committee, I would like to thank you for your interest in and suppport for Skal.
In 2016, Thailand has seen a strong year for tourism. 2017 is looking promising for Phuket with the opening of the new airport terminal and increase of direct flight from the region in September 2016. Works on multiple underpasses around the island continue to challenge the ability to move around the island a bit, yet we are hopeful this will all be result in less digestion and a better flow of traffic in the long run.
As always Skal International Phuket & South Thailand has been involved in many charity projects like never before and for this we want to thank you, our members for your generosity. On 26 November 2016 during our yearly Skal charity event at the Movenpick Karon We/You raised THB 500,000 that has gone to towards 4 different amazing charities: Pimali foundation (practical hotel training for underprivileged youth and orphans 15+ years old), Phuket International Women's Association (scholarships for underprivileged youth), Phuket Sunshine Village Foundation (orphaned and children in need) and the Pascal Frei Skal Phuket charity fund (various local charitable donations). We are very grateful to all our generous contributors and sponsors, who helped us to make this event a success and our committee is already working on the 2017 charity gala dinner.
We currently stand at 60+ international and local members. Our objective is to do business among friends through networking and building lasting friendships. Members are middle and senior managers in the hospitality and travel related business in the greater Phuket area and consist of fun loving, big hearted locals and internationals from all over the world.
Through various events and dinners throughout the year, we continue to connect, grow and develop the club and it's benefits for the members and and the local community.
To keep the meetings fresh and see the member venues, we have a dinner at a different member venue each month, usually on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Of course, you are always welcome to recommend a hotel/restaurant who would be interested to host a Skal event.
We are proud to be part of Skal International, the largest association of tourism professionals since 1934 and uniting all branches of the travel and tourism industry. Our industry employs millions of people around the world and we believe that we can contribute to peace and harmony. By working together, we can influence strategies in tourism & making sure that ethics and sustainability are well respected.
To all members and new ones, I am looking forward to seeing you and welcoming you to our next event. Don’t hesitate to contact me at email@example.com or at any event. Thank you.
With my best Skål regards,
Doeke Bonga, President
Skal International Phuket & South Thailand
